My horoscope for today begins, "The plot thickens" and goes on to tell me I've had enough fun and games, so I need to get back to work, taking the lead from others who have already done so.
Aye, aye! Writing and baking are on the agenda for tonight.

Then again, my partner in the crimes of writing just left me a voicemail in which he went completely off topic and cracked himself up wondering what would happen if he actually tried to send a fax to my cell phone after the prompt told him he could press 4 to do just that.

the LRD club

To reopen use of this blog with a bang, I decided to take the liberty of showing just what exalted company in which I find myself. That company is, of course, creators of silly personifications of death.
The short list, vol. 1 in no particular order*:

Me! for my Little Reaper Dude in the multiple-rejection-winning Eat the Comet.

Tatsuya Ishida, for Sinfest comics like this one.

Christopher Moore, for A Dirty Job.

Neil Gaiman, for Death of the Endless, American Gods, and co-writing Good Omens, among other things, I'm sure.

Terry Pratchett, for Death and Death of Rats, as well as co-writing Good Omens.

Lisa Snellings-Clark of Slaughterhouse Studios, for her Grim Ratter.

The folks at Despair.com for my favorite t-shirt.

Everyone behind Dead Like Me.

*If I missed someone who belongs on the list, comment and let me know!

R.I.P. part deux

Good-bye, Karolyn. I've only ever lit one cigarette in my life, and I'll never forget that it was yours. I hope you found some peace. Learn to surf for me, okay?

R.I.P.

Madeleine L'Engle: Your work touched my life. You are the reason I know that baby unicorns drink moonbeams. I hope the answers are as amazing as you imagined they could be.

Jim Rigney (Robert Jordan): It's rare that I'm this sorry to be right. A year ago, I told my friend Drew that I wasn't going to start reading the Wheel of Time series because your health was so poor, I was afraid you wouldn't live to finish it. I just learned that you died yesterday. I hope your faith was well-placed. If your wife finishes it as popular speculation seems to think, I'll read your work.
